About Us

Who are we?

USGBC Students is an official organization of the U.S. Green Building Council. We are an organization that fosters education, community involvement, scientific study, and research in the field of environmentally sustainable building. As a student group we intend to spread knowledge in sustainable building research and design and improve the methods and design of sustainable buildings. We strive to develop better public understanding and appreciation of the challenges and solutions posed by improved sustainable building practices. We intend to promote understanding, adoption, and use of sustainable building practices across the campus community.

The program was created to help recruit, equip, and connect the next generation of leaders to the green building movement and sustainable design industry by empowering students to transform their campuses, careers and communities.

Mission: To transform the way buildings and communities are designed, built and operated, enabling an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy, and prosperous environment that improves the quality of life.

What specifically does the ASU chapter do?

There are lots of opportunities around campus and in the surrounding community. Currently, we:
-Host study sessions for passing the LEED Green Associate Exam. Our goal is to have the most LEED APs on any college campus!
-Organize field trips to local LEED-certified buildings in order to give students a first-hand look at how to implement sustainable technologies
-Host lectures on sustainability by industry professionals
-Volunteer for sustainable efforts around campus

What are some of the benefits of joining USGBC Students?

LEED Education
A reduced student rate of $150 for LEED workshop registrations is available to full-time, currently enrolled students only.

Reference Guides
Students are eligible for deeply discounted purchases of LEED reference guides. These guides are normally $195 for nonmembers, $160 for members, but only $125 for students with proof of full-time enrollment.

Greenbuild International Conference and Expo Special
Students/Young Professionals can attend Greenbuild for $225 (a $375 discount off the USGBC member price). This price is available for those who are 25 years or younger and/or are currently enrolled students. Proof of age/enrollment is required.

USGBC Chapter Network Involvement
This is your opportunity to get connected to local green building experts and resources in your community. USGBC has 79 chapters and affiliates across the country, and student involvement is strongly encouraged. Leadership training opportunities abound, and most chapters offer great student discounts for membership and chapter events. Additionally, many chapters have Emerging Green Builders committees, which are geared toward young professionals and host special chapter events and programs. As you think about your career in the green building marketplace, chapter EGB committees offer you a way to meet peers with similar passions who can help you get connected.

Green Campus Campaign Resources
Access student resources from the Green Campus Campaign and our partners as you begin greening your campus and championing sustainability where you live, study, and play. There are also resources for faculty, administration, and facilities management staff.

USGBC Resources and Tools
USGBC Students toolkit, LEED 101 training and advocacy training, leadership opportunities and other resources and tools will be at your fingertips as a USGBC Student group.
