06-21-2011: Volunteering for Major League Baseball All Star Game Week Events
Sorry for the short notice on emails but this got sent to me today and thought it would be great to share it!
The Arizona Diamondbacks baseball team contacted me about locating volunteers to assist with the recycling program at the four All Star Game events. The events will be held at Chase Field, July 10 - 12, 2011. The goal is to have the greenest All Star Game ever. Volunteers will assist during the games, similar to the recycling tasks at Greenbuild. It will be a great opportunity to attend these events without having to pay an admission charge. The Celebrity Softball Game and the Home Run Derby are two of my favorite events. Below are some of the details from the Diamondbacks. If you are interested in volunteering, email me the event or events that you want to volunteer, your name, email address and phone number. I will forward to the Diamondbacks, and they will provide further details. First Come First Serve basis. Thank you for your time. If you have graduated, a hearty congratulations! I hope all is well. You do not need to be a student to volunteer.
Best Regards,
Jim Westberg

We are open to volunteers working multiple shifts if they’re interested, but would ask that they be 18 years of age or older.

06-07-2011: Greenbuild 2011!
Hello awesome USGBC Student Group members!!
As I am sure many of you are already aware of, USGBC holds the famous Greenbuild International Conference and Expo every year. This year, the conference will be October 4-7, 2011 and in Toronto, Canada!
Some of you may already know that I LOVE to talk about how great you guys are (especially those who were involved in our study group program last semester) but this is the chance to really show you off!
Last year, the Student Group correspondence from the national level of USGBC put on a student summit. Here, we talked about all of the great things each school was doing and had some fun activities afterwards. I was jealous to see other schools had brought along 10-15 members to the event and wanted to have that many for the next year (this year!)
I am looking for members to join me at the 2011 Greenbuild International Conference and Expo!
The best part about going is volunteering!!
Why?
FREE registration to the conference!
Check it out HERE.
So, sign up and let me know if you are interested!! I am already looking at flights and a hotel to stay at!

03-07-2011: Wednesday 3/9 @ 6-9pm - Sustainability C
USGBC Student Group @ ASU has gotten their own space! If you are interested in checking it out, feel free!
I highly recommend officers to visit!
Hey sustainability gang,
We are going to hold an official CSSI Sustainability Collaboration Space Move-In Party this Wednesday 3/9. The space will be open from 6-9pm. Anyone from your organizations (or anyone you know who just loves sustainability) is welcome to attend! USFT is meeting in the space from 6:30-7:30, so be sure to also stop in for their meeting as well :-)
Let's make this space look totally awesome! Quite a few people are already hanging out there on a regular basis, and its a perfect place to just study and work without the masses of Hayden and the MU, but it could use a little color on the walls - well...other than our beloved green ;-) - and some (live) bodies in the chairs.
Why move-in on Wednesday? We'll have some snacks for you to enjoy and throw up some speakers, a projector, and some music and movies and whatever else anyone wants to see. Let's have some fun before the real fun of Spring Break begins! ...Also, because the space needs to be occupied and ready immediately after spring break, when a bunch of high-level people from GIOS and the GIOS board will be on campus for a special celebration, and may be touring through the space.
What if no one from my org can make it? We will be sad not to see you and you'll miss out on getting to know the rest of the space occupants - but we just need to know as soon as possible not to expect you on Wednesday evening and that you still want your space but will need a different time.
Have an awesome Sunday and we will see you all in a couple days!

01-26-2011: FREE Webinars!
Hello USGBC Members!
As many of you may know, one thing our group wants to do is help those who have passed the LEED exam to maintain their CEUs. But why not get started early?!
We need a list of webinars & other educational events you want!
Webinars:
For webinars, USGBC already has a number of great resources available! Unfortunately, many of the really cool ones can cost a pretty penny. Here is where we come in. Go HERE and look through the webinars. If you see something interesting - LET US KNOW!
Want a Guest Speaker to come in?
We are also looking for great people to bring in to help gain CEUs. Who, might you ask? How about Architects & Designers who have worked on LEED projects?? Manufactures who can tell you more about where LEED is going and why it is important? It's up to you!
This is exciting! How do I do this?!
I know, I'm excited as well!
If you find something you would like to see (webinar, guest speaker, etc) please let us know ASPA through OrgSync.
- Log on to OrgSync
- Scroll to Communication on the left side of your screen
- Choose "Discussions"
- Click on "Want U want"
- choose any of the categories your idea falls in to.
BUT HURRY!!!
Your fantastic ideas can only become true if you do this soon!
Send us your ideas by Friday, January 28, 2011
(so we can get funding to do these events this semester!)
Let us know if you have any questions!
PS. Don't forget to sign up for Study Sessions! You must RSVP to all of the Study Sessions you wish to attend!

11-05-2010: Top Ten Reasons To Go To Greenbuild!
Top Ten Reasons To Go To Greenbuild!
Greenbuild Chicago 2010
Lois Vitt Sale and Kim Lombardozzi
Chicago Host Committee Co-Chairs
Chicago may be hosting Greenbuild for the second time, but it won’t be a repeat of the first time around. This year’s Greenbuild has lots to offer us all, and it will occupy the entire west building at McCormick Place, so the long lines of 2007 will be a distant memory. From a green jobs summit to a residential green building summit; from an exhibit floor with products, services and technologies from 1800 different entities, to a stellar education program geared to deliver high-quality presenters and content, the event has something for everyone. So, what will this year’s event have in common with our last venture? Fantastic tours and off-site education programs. Outdoor experiences to demonstrate why 11 million of us stay here in the Chicagoland region through the winter! Additionally, Greenbuild will feature a volunteer core of 140 or more who have worked to polish and shape our the touchdown activities of the conference in a way that showcases the greenest city in the country.
As co-chairs for the event, we had a hard time deciding what the best of the best highlights will be, so we have opted for the following top ten list:10. Mayor Daley is going to be honored with an award named for him, to be given to him at this year’s opening plenary and then given in future years to honor his legacy.
9. Colin Powell is keynote speaker for Opening Plenary.
8. A la carte activities: You can scale your activities to your pocketbook or your tastebuds.
7. Say hi to the more than 1,000 student volunteers who will be on site – and encourage them to grow good, green careers.
6. Earn those CEUs for all your credential maintenance requirements in top-notch education sessions
5. Stay through the end for Paul Hawken’s closing plenary.
4. Visit your friends at the Merchandise Mart on Thursday night during the conference’s biggest party.
3. The Green jobs Summit, the Residential Summit, the International Forum, Chapter Day… Did we say the conference starts on Wednesday? Come for the action on Tuesday and stay for the opening reception at the exhibit hall.
2. Tours on Friday afternoon and Saturday – from LEED-EB Giants to LEED Platinum projects, none of the tours are repeats from 2007. So, come see how Chicago has become the city with the most LEED-certified buildings anywhere.
1. Come see all those friends in the industry whom you only ever get to see at Greenbuild!
HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!
